◆ Signs of the bubonic plague have hit California. Earlier this week, chipmunks in the South Lake Tahoe area tested positive for the disease. A spokesperson for El Dorado County told the paper that the mammals hadn’t had any contact with humans.
◆ A southern European heatwave is wreaking havoc across Greece, Italy, and Turkey. Southern Europe’s extreme heatwave brought temperatures of 117 degrees to Greece on Tuesday, just shy of the highest temperature ever recorded in Europe. The outlet noted that heat warnings have also been issued for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia.
